A discovery flight is a real flight lesson, priced and structured so you can try it once and walk away if it is not for you. You do the preflight walkaround with your instructor, you sit in the left seat, and you fly the airplane.
It is not a sightseeing ride where you sit in the back. Your hands are on the yoke for most of the flight. Your instructor works the radio, stays on the controls with you for takeoff and landing, and explains what is happening the whole way.
The time is logged, and it counts toward the 40 hours the FAA requires for a private pilot certificate. If you decide to keep going, you are already an hour in.
